Grand Rounds Discussion Forum

Grand Rounds/Expert Diagnostic Workshop participants have an opportunity to examine and deliberate about cases of juvenile-onset bipolar disorder drawn from interviews with research participants who have given permission for their use. Each month a case history is posted with all identifying information changed to protect the child’s confidentiality. Participants can then discuss the case on the Grand Rounds Discussion Forum.

The Grand Rounds Discussion Forum is a place for parents, researchers, and clinicians to work together towards a consensus about the diagnostic features of juvenile-onset bipolar disorder. With its complex cycling patterns, co-occurring childhood disorders, and symptom patterns that change with child development, juvenile-onset bipolar disorder does not easily fit into categories derived from adult studies. The goal of the Grand Rounds Discussion Forum is to bring ideas from every perspective together to help build an accurate definition of the syndrome.

Not merely an academic exercise, experts will be reviewing and diagnosing the cases presented in Grand Rounds, and responding to selected questions from parents and clinicians on the Discussion Forum. The data that emerges from the diagnoses of the cases on the Grand Rounds and the dialogue on the Discussion Forum, will, potentially, have significant implications for treatment decisions, planning and outcome, as well as for future epidemiological and genetic studies.
